Make your granite countertops sparkle like new


Granite is the preferred choice for many homebuyers for kitchen countertops. The hardness, shiny texture, and eye-catching color make it one of the most popular options for the kitchen. Granite is more long-lasting and doesn't fade or look dull, unlike other materials like marble. It is also heat resistant, durable, and strong. It is said that granite stays for nearly 100 years, whereas the life of marble stone is around 20 years. Also, you can keep hot pans or pots on granite without worrying about cracks or breaks.


However, keeping the granite tops sparkle like new requires a bit of skill. Here we take you through the steps to clean your granite countertops.


The cleaning part will become easier if you wipe the dust and dirt on the granites regularly. Cleaning experts suggest using a soft cloth or towel to clean the granite countertop for best results. Use a small amount of water instead of pouring water. Wipe dry with a towel to remove wetness.


Do not use anything too acidic or basic on the granite. Regular use of vinegar or bleach should be avoided. Else it will dull the granite and weaken the sealant.

You can use hot water and dish soap for daily cleaning. In case you need to add a disinfectant, use 70% isopropyl alcohol. You can spray the alcohol onto the granite and allow it on them for three minutes. Rinse with water and use a clean microfiber cloth to dry it.


Say no to harsh chemicals


Strictly avoid using bleach, harsh chemicals, and ammonia-laden cleaners over the granite countertops. It will lead to discoloration and poor sealant.

Mix 50/50 rubbing alcohol and water to make your own granite cleaner. You can put 20 drops of essential oil of your choice.


You can also make a mixture of three parts baking soda with one part warm water. Mix it until smooth and apply a thin layer of the paste on the granite surface. You can gently buff with a clean cloth. Dry the granite, and voila, you have a smooth, shiny surface. often, people complain of dull granite countertops, and it's because of the buildup of the soap layer. Using soap-based cleaning agents of dish-wash soap will make the surface look dull. You can get back the shining by applying a quality soap film remover.


One of the common causes of granite dullness is letting over the water spills. Once your work has been done with the place, use a gentle cleanser and dry cloth for proper cleaning. Ensure the countertops have no moisture content and liquid drops, which later bring marks and stains. Hard rubbing is avoidable. Give a gentle cleaning with mild cleaners for maintaining with same effort for long years.


Though granite is not porous as marble and doesn't soak up oils and stains, you should not allow spills to remain for a long time. Wipe spills immediately with a soft cloth as a preventive measure
